We're feeling yellow

Marigold is the color of Spring 2019! After this year’s seemingly endless cold spells (and half-dozen false springs), it seems fitting that a color so much like sunlight is trending.

Nudes and earth tones have dominated the fashion landscape for quite some time now—think of all the olives, beiges, and mauves in your wardrobe—but yellow is one color family that’s resisted mainstream popularity in the past.

No more. Bright, bold colors coming back in vogue was an inevitable consequence of the ‘80s-inspired looks currently captivating the fashion imagination. It was only a matter of time before a shade like marigold hit the scene.

Maybe you’re afraid of yellow. Maybe you think, It looks great on other people, but I could never pull it off! Maybe you’re wrong.

Here are some unique marigold-inspired ‘fits from Hazel Twenty to get you thinking about how to add the color to your closet this season!

Downtown Date Night!
Equal parts daring and sophisticated, this outfit is all about turning heads. Snakeskin is the print of choice this spring—why not add it into the marigold mix with Veronica M’s Dahlia tie-cuff jogger? Balance out the risqué Free People Nina neo-bandeau with a more conservative cropped wrap cardigan from Mystree.

Plucky Professional
Don’t be so quick to assume you can’t wear marigold in the workplace! For a quirky-yet-reserved office getup, try these linen culottes by Greylin with this high-necked sleeveless blouse from Blu Pepper. And if you’re feeling brave—and chilly—get a little sage in the mix with Rails’ Sahara utility jacket!

Soft and Sweet

Marigold can be worn sincerely, of course. There’s nothing wrong with leaning into the color’s stereotypical innocence. It evokes the feeling of running across the yard just before dinnertime in the spring chill. Pair this polka-dot tie-front dress from Veronica M with Chinese Laundry’s open-weave cognac heel on your next picnic.

Feminine with Force

With its flowy, off-the-shoulder design and sporty waistband, this elastic waist midi dress from Hem & Thread perfectly balances delicacy and edge. Bring up the punk with a pair of Free People block heel boots.

Cool and Casual

Keeping it chic and laid-back is an easy way to pull off marigold. Try mixing yellow with some of our favorite popular styles like the bow-tie short or the wide-leg ankle culotte.
